I am currently being investigated for Lymphoma cancer I am awaiting to see the consultant next week. I have had a phone call today from my GP after having some bloods taken and my RA test has come back and he would like to see me regarding my factor levels. Could this be an indicator of Lymphoma?

  • Hi Lou89 and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like a difficult time for you.

A diagnosis of lymphoma is not just made on blood tests.  History of your symptoms, physical examinations, scans, and biopsies are all required to make a diagnosis.

Your GP may be talking about blood tests that show whether you have any signs of inflammation in your body.

The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) – which can help assess levels of inflammation in the body and the

C-reactive protein (CRP) – another test that can help measure inflammation levels.

A diagnosis of lymphoma cannot be made from these blood tests as there can be many reasons for them to be elevated; such as infection, age, and being overweight.

You may have to wait to speak to your GP about what blood tests they are talking about.

You may have heard of Lymphoma Action who include the blood tests you might have before and after being diagnosed with lymphoma.

I hope this helps and you know more about your situation soon.

  • Hi tina

thank you the blood test that have come back as abnormal are rheumatoid factor. Is this a blood test that indicates a sign of Lymphoma?

  • Hi Lou89 and thank you for posting again.

The blood test is an indicator for inflammation in your body which can be caused by many things such as infection or arthritis.

It is not used as a  marker for diagnosing lymphoma.

    I hope this clarifies.
