Mole testing

I went to my local hospital today for my first appointment for a suspect mole. The dermatologist looked at it with a handheld device then said " Its not cancer". She then booked me in for its removal for testing in 2 weeks. On my paperwork they put a sticker  saying 'urgent cancer referral'. Before I left she changed her advice to  'I dont think its cancer'. Do you you think she was just saying that to calm me, as I understand you can only tell with the biopsy

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you have these concerns over a suspicious-looking mole, but I am afraid I do not know what the doctor meant at the dermatology clinic. However, I can say that they are experienced, so will often give their own opinion on what they are reviewing through the dermascope.

Having to wait for results can be tricky, and things can play on the mind but do try to keep distracted until you hear more from the hospital. Once the results are back from the biopsy you will have an accurate diagnosis of what is going on with the mole.

Take care, and if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
