Hello, we'd like to raise awareness of cancer in BAME communities. Can we have someone visit and potentially do screenings too?
Hello, we'd like to raise awareness of cancer in BAME communities. Can we have someone visit and potentially do screenings too?
Hello becomeunited and thank you for posting.
As a cancer research charity and not part of the NHS we are not involved in patient care and we don't arrange health screenings. As a nurse team here, we support people with cancer and who are worried about cancer through our national freephone helpline, our Cancer Chat Forum and our ask a nurse enquiry service. We are office/home-based and do not visit.
We know how important raising awareness and reducing inequalities in cancer screening is. Our website goes through the risks and causes of cancer, screening as well as learning and support pages if at all helpful.
We are also aware of the work that other charities such as National Voices, black women rising and Maggie's are doing to improve awareness in the BAME communities.
It may be that you want to talk this through with one of the nurses on the Cancer Research helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
Take care,
Sarah.
