Getting a diagnosis

Hi there.

My hubby has has a sore that is not healing on top of his ear.  It has been there for months, crusting, splitting, bleeding an weeping. It has what looks like a lump underneath the sore. It took a long while to get a Gp appointment but once he did, they took pictures of it and said he needed an urgent referral. He contacted the consultants secretary on two occasions, and was told no one had looked at the pictures yet. 8 weeks on, and he's been told the dermatology department can't deal with something that needs a surgical team, but no information on what it can be. Referral back to Gp, and no idea what we're are dealing with. Hubby's dad has has multiple skin cancer diagnosis,  and we are quite anxious and concerned.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your hubby's situation and appreciate what an anxious time this must be for you both.

If you haven't already do speak with the GP surgery to ask them if they can contact the hospital to find out more. Failing that is there a different hospital that your hubby can be referred to for more tests that has a shorter waiting list.

You could also consider contacting the hospitals PALS (Patient Advice Liaison Service) so they can look into this for you.

I really do hope you can get some answers soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
