Sinus problem

Hi.

I have been suffering with sinus like problems for about 3 months so decided to finally go to the doctors 4 weeks ago. I have been on antibiotics and sprays but to no avail. I went back to the doctor last week and she has red flagged me with ent. This has obviously made me panic. I have a little money saved for a rainy day so decided to go private for a check. The consultant looked into my nasal passages and sinus areas but saw nothing and told me to stop taking the antibiotics. He wants to send me for a scan just to check my sinuses now. Being private it is expensive. Do you think it worth going for the scan for reassurance.. what could be causing the pain at the back of my nose and right side of cheek.

Many thanks

  • Thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and the concern about what is happening.

I am afraid that I can't tell you what you should do. It may be best to wait now to be seen by the NHS ENT team where you will also be examined and may need to have a scan. You may have to wait a couple of weeks for this appointment and this will not necessarily cause you any harm.

Going privately may result in having the same scans and investigations and possibly having them more quickly.  If more investigations such as a biopsy are needed, getting it done privately will cost more. You can always go back to the NHS but will still need to wait to be seen again.

You could talk with your GP about your situation and you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care
