  • Hi and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn you are having treatment for ovarian cancer.

After your treatment has finished you will have regular checkups to check that there are no signs of the cancer returning. This may involve you also having regular blood tests and scans. You can read more about what the follow-up care you may have.

Your team at the hospital will be able to clarify this for you. Depending on what treatment you have had, you will usually have regular follow-ups for the first two years for example every three months then this may lessen and you will have follow up appointments every six months for up to five years after diagnosis.

So long as you are feeling well and any follow-up tests you may have are clear and show no signs that the cancer has come back, this shows the treatment has worked. It is important that in between checkups if you notice any new persistent symptoms contact your team at the hospital. This does not mean that the cancer has come back, but it is always best to be safe and get yourself checked.

It can be a time of uncertainty whether the cancer will return, the aim of the treatment you have had is to get rid of the cancer and reduce this risk.

I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care all the best

    Jemma
