Basal cell radiation

Hello,

I've recently had a consultation with a consultant regarding a basal cell on my nose.

He was a little off putting and dismissive, rather than being put at ease I feel quite anxious about having surgery.

I am now considering having radiation treatment instead.

Is there any advise you can give please?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, as nurses, we can't suggest or advise on a specific treatment.

Overall, radiotherapy is not commonly used to treat basal cell cancers. It can be difficult to treat this way, particularly if it is on the face, nose, near eyes or ears.

We do have information on our website about getting a second opinion

You can request one within the NHS, although this may take time, or else seek a private appointment with a dermatologist. There is information about private services on the Private Health.co.uk website

The British Association of Dermatologists have information about radiotherapy on their website

    I hope that this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
