Dad just diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer

My dad found a lump in his neck and had a biopsy and was told it was prostate cancer. He has seen a consultant and he said it is advanced not curable but manageable with hormone treatment. He had blood test and now has to wait for a scan. My question is why can't he start hormones now instead of waiting for the scan. He has had back pain and very fatigue. Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

The doctors may want to find out more by doing the scan. This will tell them if the cancer is anywhere else in the body. If this was the case, then they may suggest other treatments, such as radiotherapy, as well as hormone therapy. Radiotherapy is often used if the cancer has spread to the bones for example.

We have information about treatments for prostate cancer here

    I hope that this helps,
