Medication

Good evening I have just found this group was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and had a radical prostatectomy,

It has now matastised to my right lung, I have been put on decapeptyl 6 monthly injections since April by urology and been started on apalutamide about 2 weeks ago by oncology and told it will be life and soon be started on Zometa (believe weekly) bit all I have read about states 3 weeks between

Concerned about what all these meds are doing to more of a concern than the cancer at present

  • Hello Macstu and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation this must be a difficult time,

Doctors will treat each person individually, depending on where the cancer is, its spread, and previous treatments. They will also weigh any possible benefits against possible side effects.

It's worth double-checking with the team about how often you will be having  Zometa (zoledronic acid), it is usually given every 3 to 4 weeks if it is being given to prevent bone damage, whilst having hormone treatment.

It is difficult to have side effects from medication whilst the cancer itself is not causing many symptoms, I can understand this is causing you some concern. Unfortunately, until you start the treatment no one can say for certain how it will affect you.  Do talk this through with your team or your specialist nurse (CNS).

Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best,

    Jemma
