CHEK2 testing

A first cousin is undergoing treatment for Triple Negative BC and almost all of my cousin's have tested positive for the CHEK2 gene

I advised my GP and said I needed to be tested, but my GP has said unless it's a parent or sibling, they won't test.

Are you able to recommend companies I can contact to get tested privately as my GP won't even assist with this.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your cousins breast cancer diagnosis and that several of your cousins have tested positive for the CHEK2 gene.

You ask where you can get tested privately as your GP has told you that you are not entitled to a genetic test on the NHS.

From looking online there appears to be some private genetic testing companies that you may want to contact. We cannot recommend individual companies but you might find looking on the Private Health  website helpful.

You may also find it helpful to contact Genetic Alliance UK. They have a list of NHS hospitals that  offer genetic testing and by making contact with some of these centres they may be able to tell you if they can offer you a test privately.

I hope this is of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
