  • Hello DOUGIE63 and thanks for your post,

We have a page on our website about treatment options for oesophageal cancer. This not only includes surgery but chemotherapy and radiotherapy and sometimes targeted or immunotherapy drugs. Each case is very individual and what works for one person will not be suitable for another.

The doctors take in to account the cancer, the stage and how fit the patient is in deciding the best treatment option.

I am sorry that you are not able to eat any solid food. We have a page on our website about tips for a soft diet which you may find helpful to look at.

I would talk to your team about your treatment options. Sometimes when a patient is unable to swallow solid foods a stent is put in. You can read about oesophageal stents. here

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
