Stool sample result

Hi my stool sample has come back with a result of 200.0 ug Hb/g

and a GGT blood test of 77.0 u/L serum Gamma GT level.

I‘m 53 a previous smoker and I have a hemangeoma in my liver diagnosed a few years ago.
I have had tummy pain for several months and I have sever coccyx pain and pain around my anus and between my anus and vagina itchiness and soreness and have recently been more constipated.
I have been put on the 2 week list for a colonoscopy. I’ve had 2 colonoscopies in the past and several polyps removed and last time they removed the large ones but told me that I had others growing too small to remove at the time.
I was asked to have another colonoscopy in 2025 as I obviously grow polyps quickly but this has all happened now.
I‘m really scared that I have bowel or colon or anus cancer. I think I can feel a lump but I was so sore the Drs internal examination was so painful as to be inconclusive.

I’ve lost 2 stone of weight in the last 4 months. I’m so tired all the time asleep by 7.30:8pm most nights on my side as my bottom is too sore.

Does it sound like I have cancer? I know I won’t know until the colonoscopy is done but I am in pain and scared.
if I have I know it’s my fault as I used to smoke but I’m terrified!
thank you

  • Hello moonstonebright, so sorry to hear what you are going through.  No-one but your medical team can diagnose you, but please bear in mind that lots of less serious illnesses can mimic the signs of cancer.  Also, please don't blame yourself because you used to be a smoker.......it doesn't serve any purpose to feel guilty about your previous life-style choices.  NONE of us are perfect and none of us have led blameless lives.  Good luck with the colonoscopy and hope everything turns out well for you.

  • Thank you that’s reassured me a little. Is 200 high?

  • Hello there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and appreciate this must be a worrying time for you.

I'm afraid no one here can say what might be going on for you and it is only further tests that will give more information about the cause.

Symptoms can be the result of so many different things and in most cases won't be cancer but until more tests have been done no one can say.

Try not to over think things for now if you can and wait and see what the doctor says. If you are struggling with the pain and you have tried pain medication that aren't helping do speak to the GP about what they can advise to help.

I hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care

    Naomi
