Diagnosis

Would I be called to the respiratory dept after a pet scan if it was cancer

  • Hi Snappy and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are worried about your health.

I am not sure why your doctor requested a PET scan but respiratory medicine departments diagnose and treat conditions affecting the respiratory system, which includes the nose, throat, larynx, windpipe, lungs, and the diaphragm.

These conditions can include asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), or pneumonia for example.

If you have received an appointment for the respiratory department it may be because something has been seen on your PET, but this does not necessarily mean it is cancer.

I hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
