Bone Metastases Pain

My husband has advanced Prostate Cancer diagnosed in 2008, he has widespread bone metastases, he is experiencing pelvic pain not so bad when lying and sitting mainly on standing walking, but doesn’t won’t to loose his mobility.

just had blood transfusion + iron low Hb, waiting for an appointment with local oncologist after stopping R223 because of progression, just taking paracetamol & codeine, on warfarin because multi pulmonary embolism while having chemo, so limited on pain relief and codeine causes constipation which aggravates the Proctitis which he’s had since Radiotherapy in 2019, can anyone advise re pain management.

  • Hi Janhpr,

    Thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn of your husband's situation, this must be a difficult time for you all.

As nurses not involved in your husband's care, we cannot give a medical opinion or recommend treatment. The best person to discuss pain relief with would be your husband's cancer specialist or GP as they know his situation.

I also wondered if your husband has the community palliative care team involved in his care. The reason I say this is they specialise in symptom control and are good support for patients and their families. If your husband has not already been referred his GP or the team at the hospital can arrange this.

We have information on our website about managing pain which I hope is useful for you. I hope this helps a little.

Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Jemma
