Lumps after chemotherapy?

Hello my OH has recently been diagnosed with Chronic Mylomonocytic Leukaemia and has just finished his second round of Azacitadene injections, he’s got a number of small hard lumps under his skin wherever he’s had the injections. I’m concerned that this isn’t normal. Can anyone give me any guidance on what these might be?

They’re not sore, itchy, hot, painful or tender to touch, but I’m worried that it’s the Azacitadene staying put! Or worse! I’ve been looking online and can’t find anything about them, the nurses at the hospital have said that he should let them know if they get any bigger! But haven’t said what they might be. (Generally they are not forthcoming with any information when he asks questions and just ignore him and don’t even say if they don’t know)

somebody somewhere must have an answer so I thought you might.

  • Hello 33Archersmate and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your other half and the treatment he is currently having treatment.

These Azacitadine injections can cause a reaction at the site including some swelling, so I assume this is what is happening for him in the form of a lump.

As the nurses said do let them know if this doesn't settle down or worsens so they can reassess what may be going on.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
