Concern over chest xray

Hi there

I have been suffering from copd for a few years, but over the last few months things have really escalated. My gp ordered amongst other things, an urgent chest xray.

My question is, when I had the xray, I  asked the radiographer how long would it take for my gp to receive the results and he said 2 weeks. However, as I made my way out of the door, he suddenly said (without looking up from the computer screen) that i was to wait as he had to ring a consultant in the main hospital. After 10 mins he came to me and said that the xray was going to be reviewed immediately by the consultant and would sent the report/result to my gp that afternoon. I rang my gp surgery the next morning and they made an appointment for me on Tuesday to see my gp.

I'm really concerned as I've never seen a radiographer react like that - also the speed with which the xray was dealt with. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm really worrying here.

  • Hello there and thank you for your post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and the results coming back so soon is understandably a worry.

Of course no one here can say what has been picked up on the x-ray and it is only the GP at your appointment tomorrow who can tell you more.

I really hope the appointment goes well but please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Naomi
