SCC

I’ve had my first imaging appointment and my letter says “no sign of skin cancer requiring urgent attention” and I’ve been referred for treatment. I have another appointment. Suspected SCC. Does this mean they think it could be skin cancer but not melanoma?

  • Hi Ninn and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear you have concerns about your health.

A squamous cell carcinoma is known as a non-melanoma skin cancer.

SCC    is the second most common type of skin cancer in the UK.  Most people will only need surgery as their primary treatment.

You are right to keep an eye on any moles you have and assess them regularly. Not all moles that change are cancerous. Here is a guide to help you assess your moles.

I have also attached a link for you to learn about skin cancer prevention.

I hope you can get this sorted out soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    take care.
