Lymph node clearance

Hi I had lymph node clearance 3 weeks ago after sentinel nodes was positive post mastectomy.

I am still dealing with slight lymphodema in arm but nerve ending are settling down. My question is - can this affect my thigh on that side? The top of my thigh has the tingling/burning experienced in arm previously and also is numb to the touch.

Many thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read what you are going through. It sounds like you are dealing with a lot right now.

As you know during surgery nerves can get irritated or damaged. While this usually affects the area closest to the surgery sometimes tingling and numbness sensations can be felt in other areas.

You might change or hold your body to avoid pain or discomfort. This can lead to bad posture and may put extra strain on other parts of the body like the thigh.

It's important to mention this symptom to your breast care team. They can assess whether your thigh sensations are related to your surgery or if there might be another cause. In the meantime keep doing your exercises as advised.

I hope it improves soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
