Waiting excision resukts

I had an excision 5 weeks tomorrow. Why do results take so long? It is actually cruel. The doctor said it looked very sinister and said she was almost sure it was melanoma. Tgen patients kept waiting for weeks for a yes or no. I had no idea cancer patients were treated like this.

  • Hello Marwatt and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are waiting for results to confirm if you have cancer. This must be a difficult time for you.

Unfortunately, due to the strains on the NHS, we hear nationwide that some people have to wait longer for test results. Urgent biopsy results are usually expected to be 2-4 weeks, depending on the Hospital.

I don't know if you have tried chasing the results. If you know the doctor's name who did the excision, you can contact their secretary via the hospital's general number (switchboard). If you do not know the name of the doctor you could contact your GP surgery as they might have this. Also, it might be worth checking with the GP if they have had any results.

If you still haven't heard it may be helpful to contact your local Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) as they can look into this for you.

I hope this helps a little. Do feel free to contact us again if you need further information or support. You can also speak with one of our nurses on the helpline. The freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040 and we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Many thanks

    Jemma
