Postmenopausal bleeding and Tamoxifen

I have been taking tamoxifen for 3 years and went through menopause several years ago.  Can tamoxifen cause bleeding after this long?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Tamoxifen can cause changes to the lining of the womb that may cause vaginal bleeding. Rarely, tamoxifen can cause womb cancer. The benefits of taking this usually outweigh the risk of womb cancer.

The best thing to do is to speak with your breast care team or GP about your symptoms and get checked out to be on the safe side. They will *** you and arrange tests if needed to check for any changes to the lining of the womb.

I hope you know more soon. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thanks for that. Saw GP today she has referred me for an ultrasound.  I also have a history of polyphs so could also be that.
