Unclear biopsy results

Brother has a large colon/bowel cancer . Most of right side of abdomen and not suitable for surgery. He has had three colonoscopy and biopsy done, but they haven’t managed to get clear results. Drs are definate it is cancer and now waiting for oncology to discuss chemotherapy. Will the lack of clear biopsy results make it harder to plan proper treatment?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your brother's situation.

While clear biopsy results can provide detailed information about the cancer, oncologists can still come up with a treatment. plan. They often use a combination of scans and clinical examinations to understand the nature and extent of the cancer.

Oncologists are very experienced in planning treatment with incomplete information and can tailor chemotherapy on the best available data. The aim is to provide your brother with the best possible care and to support him through this process.

If your brother has any concerns or needs more information he can discuss this with the oncology team. If he has a specialist nurse (CNS) involved in his care then perhaps they can provide him with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this is of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
