Ipmn

Hi,

my husband is undergoing tests for a IPMN in his pancreas. I have just read on a letter that his C19-9 level is raised to 45. Does this mean cancer? Thank you for any help

  • Hello Ronnieroo and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your husband undergoing some tests at the moment and the worry this must be for you both.

A raised CA19-9 can be elevated with some types of cancer including pancreatic, but other things like infection and inflammation can also increase this level.

Unfortunately there isn't usually just one stand alone test that can diagnose a cancer and often a series of different tests are needed to confirm what the problem is.

Sit tight for now but do ask the doctors and nurses involved in your husband's care any questions you have to get a better understanding about what may be going on.

I hope you have some clear answers very soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
