Melanoma

Hi I’ve noticed about 4 of my moles they haven't changed in size but have got a crust on the outside they haven’t changed in colour. I have fair hair and have a lot of moles on my legs. Can you tell me what do I do next? Do I make an appointment to see my GP so they can have a look at them please?  Thank you

  • Hi Brack1wood and thank you for your post

I am sorry to learn that you are worried about your health. Unfortunately we are unable to diagnose your condition. The best advice I can give you is to visit your GP.  GP's are very used to assessing moles and if they suspect something isn't right they will refer on to the dermatologist ( skin specialist).  You can read more here about getting your moles checked by your GP.

In most cases the symptoms will be caused by something  other than cancer. But it is always sensible to get any problems you have checked out to be on the safe side.

You are right to check your skin for any changes that may occur.  As well as the  ABCDE    rule which I expect you have read about, there is also the idea of looking for the odd one out, that is a mole that doesn't look like all the others. And the NHS website has a mole  assessment tool.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
