Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

We are due to get results back today from an MRI, CT Scan and blood test.

I've done so much reading but still lost on what are the specific questions I should be asking in our appointment with the urologist?

Thank you in advance for the guidance.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting to find out the results of all your tests. I am sure that when you get the results back the doctor will be able to explain what your next steps  may be.

Some times a patient is able to choose and in other situations the doctors will recommend a specific treatment as they think it is in a patient's best interests.

I would ask the doctor to explain the results and the treatment options or whether you need to have treatment straight away. Ask about any potential side effects, when the treatment is likely to be given.

We have some information on our website about decisions about treatment.

If you have any other health problems then it would be good to discuss what impact this would have on any treatment that you are given.

Prostate Cancer UK have a list of different questions that you may find helpful to look at.

I do hope that your appointment goes well today. If you would like to ring and discuss any of it with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a call.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine
