Skin cancer

I have had a recent confirmation of stage 1A melonoma. I was really lucky and found it early. However, I have been really anxious since as I feel that there is a real risk of another one being missed and I feel I am at risk due to my UV exposure when I was younger. I am not sure how to deal with the anxiety.

  • Hi there May76 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the anxiety you have about getting another melanoma.

It isn't unusual to be worried about the future after a cancer diagnosis ( even at a early stage) so the way you are feeling isn't uncommon.

Do speak with your doctor about how this is playing on your mind as they may be able to suggest some things to help. Anxiety UK have suggestions on how to manage health anxiety and these thoughts and feelings.

On a more practical level you could also ask your doctor if you could be followed up in a mole mapping type service to keep an eye on your skin and look out for future skin changes.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Naomi
