Lung cancer pathology code help

I was reading abut the use of a new drug on BBC. It led to me researching my lung cancer type . Cancer was removed at one hospital and chemo under a different hospital. Now one year checkup in new area of the country has shown clear until next check up in years time.

Please can you enlighten me about the code from pathology of my tumor. It was pT4 NO PLO RO. I understand what pT NO stands for but what does PLO RO signify?

Thanks if you are able to demistify.

  • Your post got me googling! Here's what I found....

PL0: tumor with no pleural involvement beyond its elastic layer.

    R0: no residual tumor.

Note - they are zeros not the letter "O"!!

  • Hello and thanks for your post

As nurses we are unable to interpret pathology reports and provide a medical opinion, as we do not have day to day access to clinicians (doctors) to ask them. Your specialist team should be able to explain this in more detail, and place it in context for you. If you have a lung specialist nurse (CNS) involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope that you get to find out more soon, Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
