Sarcomatoid Carcinoma

My father has been diagnosed with Sarcomatoid carcinoma bladder cancer, my father has been unwell and losing weight this pass nine years and on Thursday was told he has this type of cancer, they are telling us it’s aggressive.  My question is could this type of cancer been mutuate at some stage, nothing making sense to us?

  • Hello Marble1978 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your father, this news must be upsetting for all the family.

The type of cancer your father has 'sarcomatoid carcinoma' of the bladder is very rare and is usually aggressive, meaning it is fast growing and often very difficult to treat.

It is impossible for anyone to know how long your father may have had this cancer for, or indeed if it started off a slower growing  tumour that has changed ( mutated) changed over time.

Do ask the doctors and nurses involved in his care questions to try and get a better understanding of all this may mean for your father.

I hope this is helpful but please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

All the best to all the family,

    Naomi
