Swelling after groin SLNB

After a stage II melanoma diagnosis, I had a groin SLNB 2 weeks ago, which has healed well, but it's quite swollen, and the swelling feels like muscle/tissue, not fluid i.e., a seroma. Wondering if/when I should get it checked out. It's not painful, but is it normal?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

The side effects after a SLNB may include pain or discomfort, loss of sensation in and around the site of the surgery, small fluid collection (seroma), swelling and redness or infection around the scar site. The side effects usually settle after a few weeks.

If you feel worried about the swelling and you think it's increasing it's probably best to have it checked out just to be on the safe side.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
