2 week urgent Gynae referral

I’ve had horrific pelvic pain, and needed up as an emergency due to the pain. I’ve been referred urgently to Gynae.
after a diagnostic internal test I have a Fibroid about the size of an Apricot, a simple polyp and an Overian Cyst which is just bigger than an apricot, so quite a lot going on!
I’ve also had a CA125 blood test which I’ve seen the results and it’s come back at 53, I’ve done some research and 53 is quite high, I’m not medical by any means but I am really worried something sinsister is going on. The pelvic pain is uncomfortable although not as bad as it has been. My tummy is swollen and hard!
Any advice please?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

The CA125 is a protein found in blood. When the level is raised, this indicates that there is some sort of inflammation in the pelvic area. But it cannot tell the doctor exactly what is causing the inflammation. So it is not specific for ovarian cancer. Other conditions can cause this level to rise such as ovarian cysts, endometriosis and fibroids.

The next step is to see the gynaecologist and get their input. They will examine you, take a history, and discuss your current symptoms. They may consider doing further tests over time if this is needed. It's often a process of elimination to find out the cause of someone's symptoms.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Have you had an ultrasound?.I've had ovarian cysts on and off. They can be very painful , but are not usually cancerous. The chances are they may just want to do another scan in the future dn keep an eye on it..
