Hi, my husband was told yesterday that he had stage 1b melanoma cancer. In all the searches I have done there is no information on Stage 1a or Stage 1b, is 1b really Stage 2?
I am sorry to hear that your husband has had a melanoma removed.

Hi there, sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. I’m post 2 years melanoma diagnosis and his outlook would seem good. There are 4 stages to cancer with stage 1 being the first and goes on to stage 4 where that is generally considered more terminal. Although it’s not unheard of patients with stage 4 going in to remission. Then within each stage there are 4 categories known as A, B, C, and D. These categories are used with other measures to determine the thickness and some other characteristics. So a stage 1 would mean the cancer is in its early phase and the thickness would be thin as determined by the Brezhnev scale for example. I’d caution against searching the internet for medical self diagnosing as there is a lot scare mongers who don’t really know what they are talking about and rely on hearsay and opinions of other. The best site I can recommend for melanoma is the Australian melanoma institute which seems to be the global centre of excellence when it comes to melanoma related cancers. I’ll need to check and confirm their we address which I’ll post in a new message, but like always everyone is different and related to majority, but stage 1 has a 99% positive success rate
