Although you've never had a blood clot you are prone to developing one by having essential thrombocythaemia (ET.) This is more likely as the platelet count starts to rise.

The best person to speak to about starting treatment is your specialist team. They have been monitoring you and are in the best position to discuss why they think you need to start treatment now. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.  

We have information on ET on our website. The charity Blood Cancer UK has some further information on ET and they mention the research they are doing into Blood cancers.
