Radiotherapy burn

Hello , I have been having radiotherapy on my cheek which has made my gum become ulcerated and now my out side cheek is incredibly sore with blisters and raw areas . I am using aloe Vera and twice a day hc45 on the recommendation of the consultant.

is there anything else you can recommend to relieve this awful stinging  and soreness on my cheek ?

thank you  dawn

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, we can't recommend particular products. Your hospital team will have suggestions based on their knowledge from other patients, as to what helps. Also, what products to use that do not interfere with the radiotherapy beams entering the skin. It will be easier to apply other products once the radiotherapy sessions finish.

Let them know about your gum as well. There are gum gels, and pastes/mouthwashes, such as aloclair, that can help with the discomfort. You can use soluble paracetamol to help too. You might be able to get a free prescription for mouth care products. Otherwise, you can check with your team, and obtain them from your local pharmacy.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
