Abnormal poo sample

My dad is five years in remission. He had a CT scan in September and was given the all clear. He started getting a bad tummy in May and went to the doctors. He was asked to do a poo sample and it came back ‘abnormal’ with a range of 11. He now needs a colonoscopy but I am so worried it has come back. Any advice please?

  • Hello Franwheels and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that your dad needs a colonoscopy. Unfortunately no one can tell you what this means until he has had this test done.

Try not to overthink it for now. The FIT test is not a test for cancer but a test to show if there is any blood in the stool.

His FIT test was only very slightly raised but with his 'bad tummy' it is important that it is investigated.

I do hope that you know more soon.

If either you or your dad would like to ring and discuss any of this then you are welcome to call us on Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the nurses are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
