Bowel leaks

I had an anterior resection in 2016 for a pT4 n2 mo colorectal cancer . I had a temporary stoma till a reversal in 2019. For five years my motions have been quite normal . Two weeks ago I started getting leaks a few hours after a normal motion, I have started wearing tena pants day and night . I had a cooked meal last night at  seven o’clock, went to bed at eleven and woke at three with a heavy leak and spent the next two hours in and out of the toilet passing at least four very runny motions . Could this be the start of L.A.R.S or something more sinister. I am currently under the hospital for another three years owing to a melanoma. I had a ct scan end of February which was clear.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m afraid as nurses we are unable to tell you what is causing your recent symptoms and if it is related to your previous bowel surgery. This needs to come from your specialist team or GP. So do make an appointment to have this checked out.

I wonder if you have access to a specialist nurse involved at the hospital. They may be able to provide you with further information and support. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
