A Rash with Waldenstroms

I have Waldenstroms M a type of Non Hodkinsons lymphoma.  In the past I have spoken to other sufferers who have told be they have developed a rash.

I have consulted a Dermatologist who does not recognise the rash and has referred me to a Consultant Dermatologist but there is an estimated 51 week expectancy for an appointment. The rash is getting progressively worse.

The rash starts with dark red blotches which later develop a crust head.

Can anybody help with a suggestion of treatment. Steroid cream briefly calms the rash but they quickly return to an itchy state.

  • Hi Graham -L,

I am sorry to learn that you have Waldenstroms and have now developed a rash that is causing you concern.

As nurses not involved in your care we cannot recommend creams or medication. I wasn't sure if you thought the rash was linked to the Waldenstroms, and I wondered if you have discussed this with either your nurse specialist (CNS) or your cancer specialist. As they know your situation they may be to able say whether or not the cancer is causing this and recommend treatment.

If it is still recommended that you do need to see a dermatologist, you could ask if you could be put on a cancellation list which may get you seen quicker, so long as you can get to the hospital at short notice. Also, having a private dermatology appointment would get you seen more quickly if your circumstances allow this. I don't know if your GP has already recommended creams but it might also be worth having a chat with them again, to see if they can give you any cream to help with the itchiness.

I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best,

    Jemma
