HIPEC

.. Has any one done that ? Where in UK ? Was it successfully done ? How lone it took to recover ? thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I was unsure of your situation, what type of cancer you are referring to whether or not this is something you have been offered.

HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) can be given in some situations. It may be used for people with peritoneal mesothelioma, or pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). Two specific treatment centres in the UK that treat PMP using HIPEC, are the Christie in Manchester and the Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Trust.

The Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital Foundation Trust uses HIPEC for advanced ovarian and bowel cancer. We cannot say how widely this treatment is given and how successful it is as it will depend on the individual situation.

I am not sure if many people will see this post, it may also be worth posting in the living with cancer section where more people may see it.

I hope this helps a little. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Jemma
