further testing

I had a biopsy taken from tongue lumps and my right tonsil 5 weeks ago I spoke to my consultant's secretary yesterday who told me the biopsies have been sent for further testing to ensure the diagnosis is going to be a correct one.

I have looked on the Lymphoma website which states that biopsies are sometimes sent for further testing to see what type of lymphoma it is and how it can be treated,

Will this be what will be happening with my biopsies or would further tests be for something less sinister

Many thanks

  • Hello Rebecca,

    Thanks for posting.

It is not unusual for biopsies to be reviewed by up to three pathologists, in order to reach a definite clinical diagnosis. This is done to ensure quality assurance standards in the NHS, between different pathology processing laboratories.

I don't think you can make any firm assumptions about what the results might be just now, or why the testing is continuing.

I appreciate it is difficult waiting, and hope that you do get to find out more soon.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • Thanks Vanda

I have an appointment next week so will hope to hear the final clinical diagnosis
