Waiting times

Hi my Mum is currently going through tests for suspected kidney with metastasis to lung cancer. She has had scans but seem to be going round in circles, both departments requesting the same thing not seeming to communicate is this normal? She has now been referred for biopsy appointment in three weeks and a possible 10 days for results. We are 28 days from referral now so was hoping we would be closer to a diagnosis as per the pathway any advice or reassurance would be great

Thanks in advance

  • Hello Loubi and thank you for your post

I am sorry to hear about your mum undergoing tests and appreciate this must be a difficult time.

It sounds like your mum is under a couple of teams which can complicate things. The NHS systems aren't perfect and unfortunately, it isn't always possible for doctors to be able to see what has and what hasn't been done in terms of tests or results. I appreciate how frustrating this can be, including the time it is taking to get things done.

It sounds like they are running a series of tests at the moment. these hopefully will be able to confirm the type of cancer she has (primary tumour as in where it started) and what areas of the body are affected (as in metastases, which are cancers that have spread). The doctors will then come together to discuss the results and a course of action in terms of what treatments may be possible.

I really hope you all know more very soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes
