Womb cancer and early menopause

Hi

3 weeks ago i had a polyp removed from my womb and results i have receiced was that it was cancerous. I was told my womb and ovaries must be removed ASAP . I am 43 and i am petrified not of the treatment itself but that i will be forced to early manopouse that will change me and my life completely. I was aswell told that i will not be offered any type HRT post op. How this will affect me? How this will affect my life , and general well being. How would i manage the symptoms. I am really stressed and scared of it.I wasn’t told what stage cancer is it, i have not seen oncology specialist , i was told everything must be removed that is it. What are the chances my ovaries can be kept in this situation? Shall I challenge my doctor and his decision? Shall i ask to see oncologist? my head just spins like crazy especially that my surgery was already scheduled for 31st of may.

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It is always unsettling when you don't know what to expect.

I would by all means express your concerns to your surgeon but I am sure that it wasn't a decision that will have been taken lightly in deciding to offer you a hysterectomy with removal of your ovaries.

Everyone reacts differently to the menopause and you may not find it as bad as you think it is going to be.

The doctors have only removed a small biopsy, but they will be able to tell you more about your cancer after you have had your surgery.

I am not sure whether you have been given a specialist nurse if you have then do talk this through with them.

As you have questions that you want to have answered before your surgery, it may be worth trying to talk to the secretary's surgeon about the different concerns that you have about your forthcoming operation.

You can also make an appointment to discuss this with your GP, as you may find this helpful to talk to another health professional.

Try and take a step at a time. I do hope that you manage to have another discussion with your surgeon before the operation so you can have all your questions answered.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline you are welcome to give us a call.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the nurses are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
