Changing hospital

Is there a guideline for changing hospitals, either before or during treatment? I had a masectomy on 04/04 on 30/04 got told no sign in lymph nodes, grade 2. But a HER2 test was borderline and now awaiting FISH result.

If negative hormone therapy only, positive, targeted treatment  (no chemo) but this is once every 3 weeks.

I need to start the moving process now or lose buyers, but is moving care easy, ? Worried I will cause delays or even get lost in system.

Thank you

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am not aware of specific guidance for changing hospitals in the UK. However, one of the first things you will need to do is get a GP.  You will also need to get your current cancer team to refer you to the relevant hospital team.

This may be stuff you were already aware of. It may have an impact on you starting treatment but it may not.

Do talk with your breast cancer nurse about this too as she/he may also help with the referral process.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
