Colposcopy results

Hi, I am 28 years old and I have a lovely baby boy who is 20 weeks old. They did a colposcopy on 1st of May and they found abnormal cells which needs treatment and they send the biopsy for check do you know when I would get the results? What happens? Who do I contact? Gp?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

It sounds like you have had your cervical screening done and some abnormal cells were found. You were then seen at the colposcopy unit where they looked at your cervix and took a biopsy and the abnormal cells away.

It may take a couple of weeks to get the results however, if you are waiting longer do contact the colposcopy unit as they may have an idea of how long you might need to wait, and also you may wish to know how you will get the results.

Most women will not have cancer but might need to be followed with further screening to ensure all is ok.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
