NET / carcinoid syndrome

I’ve been experiencing carcinoid syndrome for 2 1/2 years and the doctors didn’t know what was going on with my body- still don’t. I was referred to heart specialists who didn’t know why my heart was beating fast and discharged me. And dermatologist saw my rashes and said potential NET or phaeoc. but that was two years ago. But I’ve just realised it’s carcinoid after reading the dermatologist letter now from two years ago. I’ve been referred to endocrinology at Cambridge but it’s been 2 weeks and still no letter? How long do you usually wait to see a doctor for suspected NET.

  • Hello Leahxox and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. If you have been referred as an urgent referral then you should hear from the hospital fairly quickly. It might be worth checking with the GP that you have been referred under the urgent pathway.

You can read about urgent referrals here.

I do hope that you hear from the hospital soon but I would chase it up with the GP first.

If you would like to chat any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
