Recently Diagnosed

Hello,

My husband has recently been diagnosed with SCC perianal lesion. He is struggling to sit down even for short periods because of the pressure on his backside.

The radiology nurse at his recent PET-CT scan suggested using a donut cushion but I've read various opinions that these are not a good idea and can cause more harm than good.

Just wondering if you can offer any other different options as it's really getting both of us down.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn of your husband's situation this must be a difficult time for you both.

I am afraid we cannot recommend a specific cushion for your husband. If it is possible, it may be worth him having a word with the team at the hospital, I don't know whether he has  a nurse specialist whom he could contact for advice. He may need to leave a message but they will get back to him.

It may also be worth speaking to his GP or if there is a Practice Nurse he could contact. I also wondered if he is taking any regular pain relief which may help and is something also to discuss with the doctors.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma
