Ct scan tonight and questions about tests

I had a bad chest infection for about 6 weeks and then it started to get better, dr ordered blood tests then. Then 2 weeks later I coughed up a bit of blood did X-ray  and came back normal and 2 weeks later coughed up large blood clot. Went to the dr and she asked a ct on >2 weeks for lung. She comment that my blood tests came also with high level of calcium so I started googling all the blood tests results and I have high calcium/ high potassium  and low gfr in renal tests and borderline low red cells. Now, these can all be associated with something called myeloma, lung cancer or cancer that has spread. I’m freaking out as I have 2 kids  and don’t want to die.

  • Ah, and I also been having sore throat on and off. My question is: with the blood tests, especially the high calcium, shouldn’t I have a ct scan on the parathyreoid gland and neck too??

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are going through a stressful time with symptoms and waiting for tests and their results.

The doctors who have seen you will know what tests/scans to order to be able to assess you properly and work out what may be going on.

I know it's difficult, but try to remember that other things can go on in the body that have nothing to do with cancer, and the internet is not a doctor. Any symptoms or test results that are researched online can always be related to a form of cancer, so this can just cause you more anxiety.

The waiting time during this period is incredibly hard, I hope you have some support or someone you can talk things through with at this time.

Take care memum and if you want to chat with one of the nurses on the helpline do call Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
