PRRT for 80

I have a NET in mesentery and mets to liver. I have been taking Octreotide injections for 10 years and my tumour is currently stable.

However I have been told that PRRT may need to be an option in the future. I have other health issues which are currently controlled and mention of PRRT has recently been unmentioned.

Are my chances of being offered PRRT reduced because I am now 80years old?

  • Hello Mike.S and thank you for your post,

When treatment is planned, several things are looked at for example how the cancer behaves, how big it is and how it has spread, previous treatments, and how well a person is whether or not they have other health conditions.

As a nurse not involved in your care, I cannot say why PRRT may now not be an option for you. Only your team at the hospital who knows your situation can say. If you have a nurse specialist (CNS), it is worth discussing this and any concerns you may have with them.

Take care and please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Jemma
