How long does Capox stay in your system

Hey guys, I finished my chemo journey in Jan, I had 8 cycles all together ct scan shows no cancer so that’s great, however the chemo did effect my liver, I still have a high functioning liver that the GP is keeping an eye on. But I would have thought my liver would be be fairly normal by now, does anyone know on average how long the chemo stays in your body, do I still have some chemicals floating around in my system?

  • Hello Mrdemo, and thank you for posting.

Congratulations on your CT scan result, that is great news.

It is difficult to say how long the chemotherapy is in your system once it is finished, as it depends on many different factors.  Where the cancer is, the treatment used, and the general health of the person, will all affect how long the drug is present for.

Sometimes cancer treatments can have long-lasting effects on different parts of the body. So the treatment itself may well be over and gone, but the effects of the treatment can remain. These can be called late effects.

As with other treatments, the  CAPOX  regime does have possible late effects. We have further information on how the organs in your body can be affected by chemotherapy if useful.

If you need a more detailed answer about your own situation, do talk to your GP who is keeping an eye on your liver, or ask someone from your hospital team.

Take care Mrdemo and if you need to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
