Menopausal Endometrioma on Ovary

I am 63 and had an MRi which shows a 5.3cm Endometrioma on my left ovary with lesions to the bowel and lesions all over the pelvis. There are deep historic endometriosis lesions and new ones. I use estradiol pessaries for bladder problems 4 years ago. Should I stop before I’m seen for my referral?  Is it normal to have this happen?

  • Hello underclay and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and that you are waiting to see the specialist.

We cannot advise you whether you should stop using the pessaries, so suggest you ask your doctor about this. It is thought that using vaginal oestrogens can worsen endometriosis so this is something you need to discuss with your own GP and see what they advise.

Endometriosis affects women of all ages and can be caused by lots of different factors so I'm afraid it is impossible to pinpoint a reason for this to happen to you. The important thing is this has been picked up and you are being referred so this can be looked into more closely to find out more.

This must be an anxious time for you and I hope you know more about your situation and what needs to happen next.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
