MRI After PET Scan

I'm feeling worried as I had colon cancer last year which was removed with curative LAR. I had all clear markers on my histology report. On my yearly CT surveillance a 7mm nodule was picked up on my lung as being suspicious. I was sent for a PET Scan which has now added suspicious activity on my liver as well, I am now having an MRI on Sunday to hopefully get more information on this. Would cancer not be obvious on the PET Scan?

  • Hello awayann and thank you for your post

It sounds like this is a worrying time for you, but until all the scans have been carried out and the doctors have reviewed them it is difficult to second guess what may be going on.

Often a series of different scans are needed to confirm what something is. Whilst a pet is able to pick up abnormality in smaller lesions a MRI is often more precise in confirming what these are.

I hope you know more soon and that everything works out okay for you.
