Vitamin Supplements after Breast Cancer

I am looking for information on what vitamins I can take after breast cancer to help with very overwhelming menopausal symptoms please.

I am finding mixed information online.

Thank you

  • Hi Shir and thank you for your post.

I can appreciate you are wanting to support your health.

We would suggest you speak with either your consultant, breast specialist nurse (CNS) or GP. We always advise patients to be very cautious when it comes to supplements as these can cause more harm than good and possibly interact with treatments. Pharmacists are usually the best people to advise about what is safe to take in terms of supplements alongside any cancer treatment drugs or other medication.

Most daily multivitamin supplements are ok, rather than single vitamins that are then taken in higher than the recommended RDA doses.

We have some general information about vitamins, and diet supplements which you may find helpful.  Also, the NHS website has information on individual vitamins and minerals.

Breast Cancer Now   has useful information on menopausal symptoms and breast cancer on their website, and you may find useful tips and advice from those in a similar situation on their forum.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
