Seminoma Stage 1 - surveillance or Carboplatin?

Hi all,

I'm 39 and have just got staged for Stage 1 Seminoma. CT all clear, bloods fine. I am c.80% cured but there is a 20% risk of relapse for me. The doctor told me that I can either have surveillance with this rate of return or choose to have Carboplatin single dose and this would reduce the relapse rate to c.4%. It sounds like the right thing to do (Carboplatin option), does anyone have any thoughts?

  • My personal view is I'd like to do anything to avoid BEP or EP treatments

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

It may be that someone in a similar situation to you replies here. But it might be best to post in the 'living with cancer' section.

Making decisions around treatment options is a very individual thing. To some, the potential increased risk of cancer returning by 16 percent is enough to have a particular drug, no matter what. For others, the idea of certain treatments and their side effects are not worth it.

There is no one right answer for all PAB85, it's what you feel is right for you. Do talk further to your team, your specialist nurse (if you have one), and others like Orchid, the testicular cancer charity.

Take care and if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
